[info]celandineb asked, "What's your favorite icon and why?"

Actually this was really hard for me and not only because most of my LJ icons have fallen inactive since I haven't renewed my account. I've collected a lot of amazing icons over the years, and there are some great icon makers out there like [info]grrliz (who easily accounts for a third of mine), [info]iconzicons and [info]lysrouge. Finally, after a fair amount of dithering, I settled on this one:

Photobucket

icon by [info]ignited based on the artwork by the talented [info]celestialsoda. The original artwork is here. The pairing is unlabeled, but I'm going to guess it's Remus and Sirius.

Why do I like it? First of all, it's based on a drawing of a kiss and what a passionate kiss it is. The sketchiness of the artwork adds to the intensity, imo. I also love the way [info]ignited cropped the icon. It's like they're both falling or sinking. I imagine they'll both be ravaging each other in a matter of seconds.

[info]cyn_ful asked me about my first huge obsession.

I have always been a sports fan, Michiganders being sports obsessed anyway. Look at the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry or the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry or Redwings' fans weird tradition of throwing octopus onto the ice rink for good luck. (Don't ask; it's all here). Anyway, as a girl I was all about the Detroit Tigers baseball team, and the object of my obsession Kirk Gibson or "Gibby." I lurvved him.

Photobucket

While he's probably best know for his clutch home run as a Dodger in the 1988 World Series, he will always be the swaggering, mustachioed resident Detroit Tigers' bad boy to me. A barrel-chested man, who always played hard, and boy, could he hit. He was fan and media favorite, and my best friend and I couldn't get enough of him.

Summer was listening to baseball full volume from radio in the garage while we hung out in the backyard. When the Detroit Tigers reached the World Series in 1984 it was like we had found Nirvana and Gibby was our hero, especially after his 3-run, Series-winning homer off Goose Gossage. (In a great sports moment, Gossage, himself a great player, should have intentionally walked Gibson, but pitched to him over his coaches objections. Gibby swung and swung hard, and well... The rest is baseball history).

After much pestering and prodding my father finally agreed to drive me and my friend to Detroit to see a game. (He was so convinced we were going to get carjacked driving through Detroit). Shortly after that he left the Tigers, and I moved on to obsess about other things like Sting or U2 or the boy in my painting class with the trench coat and a mullet (It was the eighties. Shut up!). Nowadays I root for the Chicago Cubs, write about ferret-faced Wizards, and had no idea that Gibson is presently a bench coach for the Diamondbacks until I looked him up on wikipedia.
