1.
hd_remix is now into its second week of postings. There's a lot of great, new Harry/Draco fic being posted over there, which admittedly I'm behind on my reading, but a few have stood out so far:
Une fois de plus, avec sentiment, which is beautiful one year on continuation of
shikishi's
Je t'aime aussi, one of my favorite kishi fics, and
Graphite Transference (The Slow and Not So Steady Mix), a remix of three of
dacro's fics, which I have to admit I haven't read. Exquisitely written angst with a happy ending.
And, of course, I would be remiss if I didn't direct you to
Walk Back, which a lovely anonymous person wrote for as a remix of my Harry/Draco/Ron threesome fic
Walk On. Go read, my remixer gave it an alternate ending and took it several weeks into the future, so it's quite different from the original, and can stand all on it's own. Really, it's lovely, especially if you like angsty relationship pieces where emotions can get messy, but there is still genuine love and affection running underneath.
2. Separately, I was thinking about how I have been approaching the remixes in this fest. Ideally, I suppose, the reader is supposed to read the original first and then open the remix. I haven't always been doing this. In fact, more often than not I'm not doing this, and a few occasions I've gone back to read the original after.. I wonder if I'm the only one who does this.
3. Thanks to
professor_mum's
post today on
hp_essays I spend the morning reading Daniel Hemmens' 4-part review of
Deathly Hallows and had quite a few laughs at JKR's expense. Even though I liked DH, much more than HBP, it doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good sporking, and there are some valid points of criticism made in the essays as well. Unfortunately, the four essays aren't linked together so here they are:
Part onePart twoPart threePart four ~ As for me, work has been keeping me on my toes. My son started Kindergarten last week and my daughter first grade. I never thought having school-aged kids would make me so busy, but between after-school meetings, before-school meetings (I seem to have found myself on a parental advisory committee) and soccer practice, I haven't had much time to myself. Yesterday was spent at my daughter's soccer game and then a mad dash downtown via bus and train to go to her classmate's birthday party. (Why are children's birthday parties so utterly exhausting? I felt like the marrow was being sucked out of my bones.) By the time I finally got home at 6pm I was ready for bed. literally. I watched a Godzilla movie on TV and then fell asleep. Today I'm doing nothing but clean the house and do laundry. It's an exciting life I lead.
